About the Role

20 million questions across 2.5 million responses are answered daily on the SurveyMonkey platform. The Survey Taking Experience is the front door for this scale. We are re-architecting this experience, the heart of our core business, to continue to scale our website and innovate on a new platform. In this role, you will use your mastery of the ever changing modern frontend stack to lead engineering efforts for this re-architecture, as well as for product feature development. The conversation survey format is an example of a feature that you and the team would build together!

 

A typical week in this role looks like...

  • Use your domain expertise to lead architecture design discussions on evolving the survey taking platform
  • Innovate on the survey taking experience and grow it in new markets by leading product feature development with a cross-functional team of stakeholders from across the org, including product managers, designers and platform engineers
  • Craft technical specs, write readable and extensible code, and keep tabs on post-release metrics
  • Triage, investigate and address customer reported issues
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve performance, scalability, and maintainability
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies of the scrum team
  • Mentor and guide engineers on best practices; perform code reviews and get your code reviewed

What skills are we looking for?

  • Bachelors or Masters in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 8+ years of industry experience
  • Passion for keeping up with the latest technologies in modern frontend development
  • Proven record of leading client side architecture design
  • Expertise in building complex sites that are responsive, accessible and performant
  • Proficiency in HTML and CSS; Mastery of modern JavaScript
  • Strong experience with modern frameworks and libraries such as React, GraphQL, Node.js
  • Awareness of web frameworks in Python (Pyramid, Django)
  • Strong product and design sense
  • Comfortable with Git workflows, code reviews,  Javascript testing frameworks and CI/CD systems
  • Interest and experience in mentoring, including delivering constructive feedback
  • Strong communication skills, a positive attitude, empathy, and a sense of humor

 

What technologies do we use?

  • Current state: Python with Pyramid as the web framework, jQuery, Jinja.
  • Actively migrating to: Node.js, Express, React, and GraphQL + Python backend.
