Bio Base Connect is an exclusive network of global industrial bioeconomy players that have an already existing link with the Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant or wish to create one. Bio Base Connect will offer exclusive network opportunities to the customers and partners of the Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant with the aim to stimulate innovative collaborations and investments to further strengthen the global bioeconomy. 

On May 19th, Bio Base Connect organised its very first activity, a webinar on the new Horizon Europe framework programme. As we do not want to be "just another network" but really wish to invest in serving and supporting our members, we announced during this webinar that a survey would follow to poll for feedback on how Bio Base Connect could be of added-value to its members.
 
Bio Base Connect intends to build its activities around the following four pillars:
  • PILLAR 1: Networking and matchmaking
  • PILLAR 2: Information sharing
  • PILLAR 3: Facilitating innovative R&D and scale-up projects  
  • PILLAR 4: Support actions to get innovative processes beyond pilot scale

Below we already suggest a number of services under each pillar. We would be happy to receive your feedback on these proposed services, so we can find out if these would be relevant and of added-value to our members. We are open to any further ideas, suggestions and proposals.

Bio Base Connect will (co-)organise a yearly, one-day, fly-in-fly-out pitching, matchmaking and networking event in collaboration with innovation platforms Pilots4U, Tech4Biowaste, Waste2Func and BioeconomyVentures: Bio Base Connect members will be able to pitch and/or scout new technologies, connect with potential partners, investors, application centres, pilot facilities…

Bio Base Connect has a huge bioeconomy network and is very well connected with many different types of organisations needed during all phases of the innovation value chain, such as: application centers, pilot facilities providing complementary services to the BBEPP services, industrial partners, R&D partners… (mutilple replies are possible)

As part of the short webinars on specific topics mentioned above, we could offer info sessions (as well as customized advice) for foreign companies with an interest in bioeconomy related investment opportunities in Flanders or in establishing a company/legal entity in Flanders that will be active in the bioeconomy. Bio Base Connect will offer these services in collaboration with Flanders Investment and Trade Agency and can bring all necessary partners together. (multiple replies are possible)

Information and advice on funding opportunities on a European (e.g. Horizon Europe, CBE, Green Deal) as well as a regional level (Federal and Flemish funding programs). Bio Base Connect will, where possible, seek for industrial symbiosis to realize industrial cluster collaborations and investment in demonstration and production installations. BBEPP is often operating in the centre of the value chain and thus has a good overview on (both sides of) the innovation value chain. Through its knowledge and extensive network, Bio Base Connect will connect feedstock suppliers with technology providers and industrial end-users. (multiple replies are possible)

Bio Base Connect is closely involved in three innovation platforms (BBI-JU CSAs): (1) one to provide insight in emerging technologies in biobased value chains by means of a database on new technologies TECH4BIOWASTE; (2) one to help start-ups and spin-offs gain access to finance, BioeconomyVentures; (3) Pilots4U, a database and network of European Open Access pilot and demo facilities and (4) Waste2Func aiming to resolve supply chain hurdles towards the efficient conversion of biowaste. Combined with the yearly pitching, matchmaking and networking event during which companies can pitch their technologies for investors and/or potential partners, and our extensive investor/tech company network, Bio Base Connect is in a strong position to connect investors with tech companies.
