A large number of what is labeled as “e-waste” is actually not waste at all, but rather whole electronic equipment or parts that are readily marketable for reuse or can be recycled for materials recovery (= urban mining). b. E-waste is an 'urban mine', as it contains several precious metals (copper, gold, silver, palladium, ...) that, if recycled, can be used as secondary materials. c. More than 45 million tons of e-waste are dumped worldwide every year, this is equivalent to 4500 Eiffel Towers. d. Estimates tell us that worldwide e-waste is worth 5 billion € of rawmaterials. e.
